Why Feedback Is A Good Thing
Recently I read an interesting post on getting feedback. The main notion of it was, that in these times there is too many input on creative processes, and that feedback, because of the huge number of inputs, can be blocking that. To me it came across as a bit strange. I feel that all feedback is good and gives you the opportunity to learn, grow and strengthen your creative process. But maybe that is because my definition of feedback is quite narrow. For me, to be feedback, input has to meet five criteria.
The first characteristic of feedback is that you ask for it, or accept the offer of it, from someone, or a group, whose opinion you value. In other words, you ask for guidance from a person you trust to give you a proper set of directions. The key to this is that you want to go somewhere and think the feedback giver can help you get there. This is actually two characteristics: feedback is solicited, and from a person you trust.
